Jonathan C. Koch has more than 35 years’ experience in complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts and in arbitration. Since 1990, he has served as mediator in hundreds of commercial cases of all descriptions. In 2014, he founded Koch Mediation Services in recognition of the fact that the high cost and expense of formal litigation did not serve the interests of parties in many, if not most, commercial disputes. He now concentrates his practice on mediation, arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
The objective of mediation in all cases is to avoid expensive and time-consuming formal processes in favor of prompt, efficient and consensual outcomes determined by the parties. Mediation in the early stages of litigation or arbitration allows the economical and efficient pursuit of a wide range of potential outcomes, many of which will offer value to the parties which is superior to the uncertain results of formal process through trial or hearing and appeal. Mr. Koch seeks to provide a fair, confidential, participatory and consensual process to assist parties in avoiding the high financial and emotional cost of litigation.
Koch Mediation Services operates from a dedicated mediation facility in Tampa's attractive Soho district, within minutes of Tampa International Airport and downtown and within walking distance of dozens of restaurants. Two convenient hotels are also within walking distance of the office. Ample free parking is available on site.
Mr. Koch has substantive expertise in virtually all areas of federal question litigation, including antitrust, securities, intellectual property, unfair competition, environmental, fair debt collection and consumer law, employment discrimination and class action law. He also has substantial experience in commercial law of all descriptions, including business dissolutions and receiverships, trade secret and non-compete matters, contract, real property, and employment law including severance contracts. He has represented numerous high-profile professional athletes (in baseball, basketball, golf and tennis) in sports and entertainment matters. Representative matters may be viewed on the Curriculum Vitae tab. He has been a frequent lecturer in the areas of civil practice and procedure, mediation practice, and antitrust and unfair competition.
Mr. Koch is certified as a mediator by the Florida Supreme Court (circuit courts only) and by the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Ohio (inactive), Florida, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He is an invited member of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals and the Florida Circuit-Civil Mediator Society.
Mr. Koch also will serve as an arbitrator in commercial cases by private contract.
